Fused beads are an easy way to turn small plastic beads into bright pixel-style art. For a first project, keep the shape small and focus on learning the basic rhythm: place beads, protect them with paper, apply gentle heat, then let the piece cool flat.
What you need
- Fuse beads in a few colors
- A pegboard and ironing paper
- A household iron
- A flat, heat-safe surface
Start with a small shape
Choose a simple icon such as a heart, star, mushroom, or smiley face. Work from the center outward so the design stays balanced. If a row looks uneven, adjust it before ironing; moving loose beads is much easier than fixing a fused piece.
Fuse slowly and evenly
Cover the beads fully with ironing paper. Use a dry iron at a medium setting, keeping it moving in small circles. Check after a short pass rather than pressing hard. The goal is for the beads to join at their edges while the holes are still visible.
Cool it flat
Let the project cool under a book or another flat object. This helps prevent curling. Once it is cool, turn it over and repeat a light pass on the back if the project needs extra strength.
